Homily Series: Clergy Abuse Crisis

Forgiveness doesn't entail restoration to ministry.

Today, Fr. Steve informs the faithful about the recent Report Bishop Boyea released Tuesday, and discusses what "credible allegations" mean in the context of the current clerical abuse scandal. Today in the Gospel, Jesus tells us not to judge, but Fr. Steve argues that we must make judgments, even if the ultimate judgment comes from the One Judge, God. Yes, we need to forgive those who wrong us, but that does not mean that sinful acts, and, in this context, we're talking about those perpetrated by clergy or other ministries, can be effectively "forgotten." Mercy, yes, but mercy informed by true justice. Those who abuse their ministry should not be allowed to continue in ministry.
